Assessing the Correctness of Public Sector Decisions

Order Description
The public sector provides services to the public by engaging in a complex decision-making process. The process includes taking into consideration the concerns of many constituencies, including the community, local and national politicians, consultants, legal issues, and policy imperatives, all the while attempting to remain within the allocated budget for providing such services to the public. For example, when a local government decides to close a public pool, there are typically public hearings scheduled to obtain the community input. Local politicians will meet with local government officials to try and find alternatives or additional funds to keep the pool in operation. The budget office will provide projections on the savings if the pool is closed. Depending on the competing factors that were analyzed during the decision-making process, the ultimate decision that a policy maker reaches may or may not be viewed as correct by various constituents.
The correctness of a decision will often align itself with what the evaluator values most. Therefore, the correctness of a policy decision varies with evaluators, and can be based upon both short-term and long-term implications.

Using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, locate and read an article on a public policy environmental initiative or project decision made by policy makers. Write a 3- to 5-page analysis report summarizing the article and critically analyzing decision(s) made. Analyze the values that the environmental public policy initiative is addressing.
Your analysis report should address the following questions related to your selected article:
• What determines whether a policy decision is correct? How do you define “correct?”
• What measures the rightness or wrongness of a policy decision?
• Do the types of measuring models used to determine the rightness or wrongness of a policy decision differ in the private sector and the public sector, and if so, how?
Support your assumptions by citing reputable source materials. Your submission should follow APA style.
